Riverside Watermill House

This is a restored 18th-century watermill in Vilar de Mouros, its granite walls and walnut-tone floors framing four bedrooms — three with queen beds, one twin — each with a full bathroom. A glass panel in the floor reveals the original mill mechanism below. The open-plan living area looks over the river, the kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, and dinners gather under a handcrafted chandelier.

The Coura River curves around the property, forming a clear river beach reached by a private path. Vilar de Mouros, a quiet village known for hosting Portugal's oldest music festival, sits 5 km from Caminha's medieval centre and Clock Tower, with the Atlantic coast 10 km away and Spain's La Guardia 20 km further.

Mornings start with the sound of water over rocks and coffee on the terrace. Afternoons mean swimming from the river beach in summer, or a barbecue on the house's own indoor grill. Evenings settle by the fireplace or out on the garden terrace as the light fades over the water.
