The Minho coast is one of Portugal's best-kept surf secrets. While the crowds head south, the beaches around Viana do Castelo offer consistent Atlantic swells, long sandy breaks, and water warm enough for a wetsuit (not a drysuit). Praia do Cabedelo, in particular, is a world-class spot protected by the Lima River breakwater — creating conditions perfect for learning.
Our surf lessons are run by certified instructors who adapt to your level. Complete beginners start on the sand with technique and safety, then progress to the water with patient, hands-on coaching. Intermediate and advanced surfers get taken to the best break for the day's conditions — your instructor knows every sandbank, every tide shift, and every local secret.
All equipment is provided: premium surfboards (soft-tops for beginners, hard boards for advanced), wetsuits, and rash guards. Groups are kept small — maximum 6 per instructor — so you get real attention and real progress.
After the lesson, Cabedelo Beach is one of the Minho's finest stretches of sand. Stay, dry off, and watch the waves. Your instructor can point you to the best beach bar for a post-surf drink.

Meet your certified instructor on the beach. Wetsuit fitting, board selection based on your level, and a thorough briefing on paddling technique, pop-up, and ocean safety.
Wade into the Atlantic and start catching whitewater waves. Your instructor is in the water with you, positioning you, timing the waves, and coaching every attempt. Most beginners stand up within the first hour.
Build on your technique. Beginners move to larger whitewater; intermediate surfers catch green waves. Your instructor gives individual feedback and tips throughout.
Rinse off, change, and enjoy the post-surf glow on the beach. Your driver takes you back to your villa — or stay at the beach and explore the nearby bars and restaurants.

Absolutely. Most of our guests are first-timers. The lesson starts on the beach with technique, then your instructor is in the water with you every step of the way.
Children from 6 years old can join. We have smaller boards and instructors experienced with young surfers.
The Minho coast has consistent Atlantic swells. Flat days are very rare between April and October. If conditions are truly unsuitable, we reschedule or offer a full refund.
